Both sides hunt for a solution to political crisis that has devastated the oil-rich country’s economy

A key member of Venezuela’s opposition met officials from the Pentagon and the US state department on Monday as diplomatic efforts continued in search of a solution to the stand-off between President Nicolás Maduro and opposition leader Juan Guaidó.

Carlos Vecchio, Mr Guaidó’s envoy to the US, described his meetings in Washington as “very positive”, without giving further details.
